USA EQUITATION CHAMPIONSHIP

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Equitation Computer List is to provide riders up to 21 years of age with the opportunity to compete and earn points on a national basis similar to the system used by the nation’s top Show Jumping riders.  Results from the USEF Medal, ASPCA Maclay, USET Talent Search, WIHS Equitation-Overall, and any other special equitation class that is approved by the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament Organizing Committee will be used to determine a weekly ranking list for Equitation riders.

The top ranked riders will be recognized at the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament. Year End Awards will be presented to the top ranked riders and their trainers based on the list published November 2nd 2007.  Year End Awards may vary.  Previous awards have included saddles, ribbons, medals, jackets and invitations to the George Morris Horsemastership Training Session.  Trainers Awards have been cash and sponsorship by Weatherbeeta.

RULES

Equitation Computer List – The criteria for the Equitation Computer List is outlined below.

Eligibility of Riders - For a rider to be ranked on the Equitation Computer List, he/she must be a current member in good standing of the USEF. In the case of foreign riders, the rider must be a current member in good standing with USEF or in possession of a Foreign Rider License issued by USEF.

Classes to Count – Classes must meet the following criteria to be counted in the USA Equitation Computer List:

1.                   Be the USEF Medal, ASPCA Maclay, USEF Talent Search, WIHS Equitation-Overall, or any other special equitation class that is approved by the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament Organizing Committee. Additionally, it is recommended that, if approval is granted, the inclusion of any special class be printed in the prizelist for the event.

2.                   Take place in North America and be recognized by USEF, and/or be a special class approved by the U.S. Equestrian Team, and/or be the USEF Show Jumping Talent Search Finals and/or any classes approved by the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament Organizing Committee.

3.                   Results, including number shown, and an accurate class sheet, preferably with addresses, will be forwarded to Ryegate Show Services, 1298 Royal Road, Annville, PA 17003-2226 for inclusion on the Equitation Computer List.  The Syracuse Invitational Equitation Committee, Organizing Committee, Board of Directors and/or Ryegate Show Services will not be responsible for tracking down results, which shall be the ultimate responsibility of the rider.

4.                   In the case of a show with multiple classes to count:

a.      A rider will receive points for their best three placings only.

b.      Therefore, no rider will be able to gain the advantage of having more than three classes per show count towards the Equitation Computer List.

c.      In the case of shows with additional “special” equitation classes, the above rules still apply.

d.      All classes from a single competition will be considered in the ranking week of the last class that is counted.

Initial Ranking - The initial ranking of riders will be determined starting on the week of May 19th, 2003. All riders will be ranked equally with a value of 1.

Class Value Factor - Each class will be given a value based upon the ranking of each rider from the Equitation Computer List calculated the previous week.  The ranking value of all riders will be added and divided by the value of the “perfect class”; i.e. a fictitious computer generated class in which the top ranked riders all compete.  The number of riders used to calculate the “perfect class” will be fifty (50).  All unranked riders will be given a value of one. The class value as calculated will then be used as a multiplier for the base points awarded to each rider for his/her performance in that class.

For classes with 0-15 entries, the class value will be multiplied by 1.00.
For classes with 16-25 entries, the class value will be multiplied by 1.10.
For classes with 26-40 entries, the class value will be multiplied by 1.20.
For classes with 41 or more entries, the class value will be multiplied by 1.30.

Ranking Value –  The "ranking value" used in computing the value of a class is a point value for the previous week's standing in the rider list.  The first-ranked rider adds a value of 100 points, second-ranked rider adds 99, and so on down to 96th ranked and below, which add the minimum value as defined previously to the class value.

Ranking List - Each week (as defined herein), points won by a rider in a maximum of three classes per competition will be added together and a ranking list generated.  The rider with the highest total points will be ranked #1, the next highest total will be #2, and so forth.  Only the top 200 riders will be recorded within the system.  All riders below 200 will be considered unranked.

Point Values - Points will be awarded for all ribbons won in accordance with the values listed below.  Points will only be given for ribbons which have been awarded.  Ribbons must be awarded in order for points to count.

1) 200               2) 170               3) 150               4) 130               5) 120
6) 110               7) 100               8) 90                 9) 80                 10) 70

Equitation Finals – Equitation Finals will have the following minimum class factors:

  • USEF Talent Search Finals (East and West)
  • Washington International Equitation Finals
  • ASPCA Maclay Finals
  • USEF Medal Finals
  • CEF Medal Finals
  • Any other Equitation Final approved by the Organizing
Committee of the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament

Aging of Points - Points will retain their full value for 52 weeks.  At the end of the 52nd week, they will reach a value of 0.  Therefore, each week’s points will be retained for one year and only the most recent points (previous year’s points deleted) will be included in the ranking.

Ranking at year-end will be carried forward on a continuous basis.

Deadline For Receiving Results - Ryegate Show Services will be responsible for receiving all data from any competitions which meet the criteria described above.  All results must be received by 12 noon Thursday following the ranking week (defined as Monday through Sunday) in which an event is held in order to be included in the ranking for that week.  If results are not received within 30 days following the class the points will not count.

Equitation class results will be subject to protest for the purposes of computer ranking for up to 10 days following the competition.  It is the responsibility of each rider to satisfy himself/herself about his/her placing in a particular equitation class, and to communicate directly with the Organizer in this regard.

Decisions made by Show Management will be final.  Once points have been entered into the system, there will be no changes, except as follows:

1.                   Correction of errors (i.e. wrong name, spelling, entry number, incorrect ranking value, etc.)
2.                   Disqualification under applicable rules due to a positive drug test or other rule violation.

In the case of #1 or #2 above, i.e. correction of errors or disqualification, points earned for that competition only will be deducted from totals for the rider in question.

RIDERS ARE REMINDED THAT IN ORDER FOR POINTS TO BE CREDITED ACCURATELY, THEY MUST BE ENTERED CORRECTLY, i.e. CORRECT SPELLING OF NAME, CORRECT MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS, etc.  RYEGATE SHOW SERVICES AND THE SIEC WILL USE THEIR BEST EFFORTS TO ENSURE THAT POINTS ARE ENTERED PROMPTLY AND CORRECTLY, AND SHALL ALSO MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO INSURE THE ACCURACY OF THE EQUITATION COMPUTER LIST, BUT CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ERRORS.  RIDERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SATISFY THEMSELVES WEEKLY CONCERNING THEIR STATUS ON THE EQUITATION COMPUTER LIST AND TO CALL ATTENTION PROMPTLY TO ANY ERRORS.
